When it comes to sports car and race cars then Maserati is the one which comes to our mind. The race car created by Maserati won the 1926 Targo Florio race. It was in Bologna, Italy where the Maserati history began its steps, at the end of the nineteenth century. Carlo, Bindo, Alfieri, Ettore and Ernesto; sons of Rodolfo Maserati turned out to be auto engineers, designers and builders in their lies. All of them were interested in cars whereas Mario, one of the brothers alone is said to have become a painter. Carlo initially worked for Isotta Fraschini and was followed by his brothers who also had worked for Fiat and Bianchi. By 1914 Alfieri Maserati started Officine Alfieri Maserati on Via de Pepoli in the centre of Bologna. While his brothers continued to work on cars for Isotta Franchini, Alfieri designed Diattos. Only by 1926 the first Maserati car came out. Maserati has produced lots of racers which set record throughout 1930s. After the death of Alfieri the brothers sold the shared to Orsi family and moved to Modena where Maserati had its headquarters. Machine tools and electric vehicles were being already made but at the end of World War 2 it continued building Racing Cars.

Fangio, the legendary Formula one driver, piloted the 250F to a win in car’s debut at the world famous Argentina Grand Prix. When it took home the World Title for the fifth time, Fangio was the driver. They then stopped entering the racing and started supplying Formula 1 engines for others. Maserati then focused on production of cars in the 60s. 3500GT was debuted in 1958 and in1963 the first four door sedan car, Quattroporte made its debut. Citroen, the French auto maker bought the shares of the Orsi family in1968, Citroen SM (With Maserati engine) won the Morocco Rally in 1971.s
After producing the Bora, Merck and Khamsin the automaker was hit like many others by the global gas crisis, the Italian Government saved Maserati from the closure. Maserati was then resurrected with the help of Argentinian Formula 1 driver Alejandro De Tomaso with Benelli Company 1976 and they launched Kyalami. The start of the next decade was a silent one as Masearti introduced Biturbo the low-priced car. The company was took over by Fiat by 1993 and then sold to Ferrari by 1997. After Ferrari took full control, it built a new factory replacing the existing one. There was a recent discussion with Volkswagen on sharing its Audi’s Quattro for the Maserati’s current Quattroporte platform. But this was not under effect as Volkswagen owns Lamborghini and Bugatti, Ferrari’s direct rivals. Now Maserati is back and is selling globally. In 2005 Maserati sold 5659 cars worldwide. At the same year Maserati’s ownership was transferred to Fiat from Ferrari. Maserati has broadened its presence in the international market too. For everyday use, GranTurismo will be sporty for a captivating ride. Maserati had recently claimed the entire four titles offer in the GT1 in 2007 FIA GT International Championship.
